2020 Dates: 24th December-28th February
It is the largest ice and snow festival visited by a large no of people around the globe. Featuring the 20 feet tower made from gigantic blocks of ice, it includes an international competition of ice and snow, winter swimming in Songhua river, ice lantern show, ice sailing and speed skating. The festival is conducted in Harbin of Heilongjiang province of China from January 5 to February 5 every year.

Venice, one of the most romantic cities of Italy, hosts this festival every year in the weeks leading up to Easter. In Italy, it is known as ‘Carnevale Di Venezia’ or simply Carnevale. The festival is one of the enormous celebrations takes place in Italy where anything can happen. Carnival is celebrated with the large winter festival, which includes parades, music, masquerade balls, entertainment and parties. Children play pranks and throw confetti, raw eggs and flour at each other to have fun. Moreover, people roam around wearing costumes and different styles of a mask.

Holi is one of my most favourite festivals celebrated in India. Dipped in hues of love and trust, it is known as ‘ festival of colour and love’. On this occasion, people used to reunite forgiving each other mistakes and show respect and love. On the very first evening, it is celebrated as Holika Dahan or Choti Holi we can say and the following day is Holi. The Hindu festival of Mathura is very famous in India named as ‘Lathmar Holi’ in which people used to hit with sticks.

Originated two thousand years ago, the festival offers a beautiful sight to the eyes of beholders. By releasing thousands of lanterns into the sky, people display the scribbled messages of their hopes and dreams. Also, lanterns portray the end of the Chinese New year period. Celebrated in Taiwan, China, the festival is held on the first full-moon night of every lunar year. Lantern making, Lantern riddle games and fireworks displays are also included in the celebration.

Celebrated in the town of Bunol in Spain, La Tomatina is the craziest festival one must ever experience in the lifetime. Tomato war starts at 10 am with an event called ‘Palo jabon’ in which someone from different groups has to climb a greased pole and drop a ham from its top. La Tomatina is entirely a fun festival (not tied to any ancient beliefs) for which tomatoes are imported from Extremadura, a division of Spain. Moreover, parades, dance, music and fireworks are also a part of this festival.
2020 Dates: 30th August-7th September
With a gathering of around 50000 people, the festival takes place in the middle of Nevada’s Black Rock Desert. Created entirely by the citizens, it is dedicated to community artwork, self-expression, self-reliance and closing with the burning of a huge effigy of a man. And, if you are a party animal and need a break, then this one is for you.

Have you seen the Disney movie named ‘Coco’? If yes, then you must be aware of the festival mentioned. Dia De Los Muertos or Day of the dead is the festival that has been celebrated from centuries. It is the festival celebrated all over Latin America and particularly Mexico with colourful Calaveras and Calacas. It’s a three festival on which families gather to remember the loved ones who died and pray for them. Moreover, some families celebrate and hold parties in the cemeteries.

Rio Carnival in Brazil is the most famous and biggest carnival in the world. The Carnival is the non-stop party with over two million people per day on streets. It starts on Friday and ends on Tuesday leading up to Lent. People sing, dance and have fun in the Rio carnival presenting the authentic culture of Brazil. Samba Parade is one of the important events that take place in the carnival filled with revellers, floats and 200 Samba Schools presenting their theme dressed in beautiful costumes. Plus, more than 300 street bands perform live in Rio.

An event like no other, the balloon festival is celebrated for nine days in October. Enraptured the sky with special shaped balloons rodeos, twilight balloon glows, and vibrant balloons. And, it is the largest gathering of hot air balloons in the world attended by thousands of people every year.

Beer lovers, don’t miss it! Munich’s fair is the biggest beer festival in the world. The festival starts in the last week of September till the first weekend of October. More than 6 million people around the world witnesses the festival every year. Also, more than 7 million litres of beer is consumed by people every year. Amusement rides, fun activities and food are some of the attractions in Oktoberfest.
