Whenever I get asked for the minimum time required to visit Kinnaur and Spiti valley, my answer always is 9 days. With this enough time in hand, you will be able to see almost all the places in the valley. You will neither travel too much on any given day nor will your journey be too relaxed on any day.
Here I will share tips of Planning a 9 Day Itinerary for your Trip to Kinnaur and Spiti.
Spiti Valley 9 Days Itinerary
Let me first begin with a travel plan that I planned. This one will cover the whole Spiti and Kinnaur circuit. The journey will begin from Shimla and will end at Manali.
Delhi to Shimla / Narkanda – Day 1
Shimla / Narkanda to Chitkul – Day 2
Chitkul to Kalpa – Day 3
Kalpa to Nako / Tabo – Day 4
Nako / Tabo to Kaza – Day 5
Kaza – Day 6
Kaza to Chandratal – Day 7
Chandratal to Manali – Day 8
Manali to Delhi – Day 9
This, of course, is just a very organized travel plan. The journey can be changed and laid out in many other ways.
Delhi to Shimla / Narkanda
There is not much to write about this day except for that this will be a long journey of about 9 to 10 hours depending upon your velocity and breaks. From Delhi, you will reach Ambala traveling via NH1. and then just before Chandigarh, you will turn on the Chandigarh Shimla highway. And then for sure, at Shimla, you may also be stuck in the traffic jam. But it was once a tourist destination, but now it is a trade center and residential city.

Shimla / Narkanda to Chitkul
the destination for today will be the small yet highly scenic and stunning town of Chitkul. You will also be crossing another famous as well as popular tourist spot Sangla on the way, which is about 20 kilometers before Chitkul. at the same time, there are many hotels at Chitkul and you will have no problem finding accommodation here.
Chitkul to Kalpa
After long riding hours on Day 1 and 2, as a result, take a bit of a day off on Day 3. You will be traveling today as well of course but the journey will be a bit short and very relaxed. Take your own time while starting from Chitkul in the very morning.
After reaching Kalpa, check into a hotel, relax and enjoy the scenic beauty around you.
Kalpa to Nako / Tabo
The road between Kalpa and Nako always remains in a bad state and will limit your speed worst at many places. Depending on your own choice, you can choose to stay at either Nako or Tabo. after nako or tabo, the next guess station will be at Kaza only.
Nako to Kaza
The distance between Nako and Kaza is about 115 kilometers. Indeed your journey time will not be more than 4 to 5 hours in a relaxed manner. This will give you plenty of time for scenic sightseeing, breaks, and photography. On the contrary to truly appreciate the scenic beauty around you. You will pass the city of Tabo and Dhankar on the way and can visit the monasteries here.
Kaza
You will spend this whole day 6 at Kaza only. Go outside and capture the stunning beauty of nearby villages Komik, Kibber, Langza, Hikkim, TashigongTashigang, and Chesham. Secondly, on the way, you will also visit the famous Key Monastery which is the largest and oldest monastery in Spiti.
Moreover, it is one of its prime attractions.
Kaza to Chandratal
The next stoppage in the itinerary is the famous Chandratal Lake which is also the star attraction of this beautiful journey. Spending a night here at the camps is must be recommended for everyone. However, according to my opinion, a journey to the Spiti valley is incomplete if Chandratal is not a part of it.
Chandratal to Manali
Planning a 9 Day Itinerary for your Trip to Kinnaur and Spiti
After spending a night at Chandratal, go back to the point where you took the diversion near Batal. Your fun on bad roads will reach its peak today. The entire Batal and Gramphoo is a non-stop series of water crossings with huge boulders on the road. While after you reach Gramphoo, you will climb up Rohtang Pass and from there, until Manali.
Manali to Delhi
Once again, nothing much to say about this day of the beautiful and adventurous trip. It will be a bit long and tiring journey of 14-15 hours of driving back to Delhi.
Final word
As a result, it will be your 9 days of travel to Spiti valley, completing the entire whole circuit. This covers the majority of the must-visit places on the route and ensures that you do not travel too much except for the first and the last day.
