Well reaching Leh is a not as tough as perceived. There are no trains that go directly to Leh, and the nearest station is about 700km from Ladakh(Jammu Tawi). If you happen to come by train, then come to Jammu, and then take the cabs/bus to Leh.
You will be surprised to know that Leh has a well-developed airport. It’s well connected to all the major cities and probably the best way to reach Leh.
Probably the reason why you are planning a trip is to experience the wonder of the road trip to Leh. The road trip has to offer the prettiest sceneries and a lifetime of memories. You will have to reach Manali and from there take a bike/cab to Leh. The distance is close to 470km.
Well owing to the fact that it is located at a height of 3500m above sea level, the place is dead cold in winters. It is strictly advised not to plan the trip in the months of November-February. Most people abandon the place and move to lower altitudes at this time and hence the resources get scarce. To sum it up, it will be a huge risk to travel during winters.
The best time to visit Leh-Ladakh is during summer(April-June). The snow has melted and everything seems is fresh. The nature is at its best, the shops, hotels, and people get back to business. This is the time where you can get frostbite and sunstroke at the same time. Tourists start coming in. The highways open up. The rivers melt and flow at full pace. Overall, it’s best that Leh can get.
